A groundbreaking clinical trial, published in the esteemed New England Journal of Medicine, reveals that identifying and treating individuals with undiagnosed asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) leads to substantial health improvements and a decrease in respiratory-related healthcare visits within a year of diagnosis.
Approximately 70% of people suffering from asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary treatment remain undiagnosed, according to the study’s principal investigator, Dr. Shawn Aaron, a renowned senior scientist and lung specialist at The Ottawa Hospital, as well as a professor at the University of Ottawa. This trial marks the first time that the positive impact of diagnosing and treating these individuals has been scientifically proven.
